Our Story of Success
BRM's story started with the family of our founder and CEO Chan Ang. The Chan family have been involved in the trading and milling of rice in the Kingdom of Cambodia for 4 generations; over 100 years. Before the Khmer Rouge decimated Cambodia, Ang's family had the widest-distributed rice brand in the country: White Elephant.
Ang's family had to restart from scratch after the Khmer Rouge. Ang applied himself in his studies in Cambodia which led to scholarships in France and Thailand. After receiving two Masters Degrees, Ang started his career with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) before moving through positions of leadership in Shell, ANZ Royal Bank and Sokimex.
During Ang's career, he often thought about returning to his family's ties with rice and especially establishing a business and production model that works for all stakeholders.
Early in his career at the IFC, he was instrumental in forming the Rice Miller's Association of Cambodia and in 2011 he started purchasing paddy land in Kampong Thom which is now the base of BRM Agro's current operations.
In 2015 BRM Agro Co., Ltd. was formed as a joint venture between Chan Ang and the Atsawin Cambodia Fund led by Patrick Davenport, Richard Neville and Jeremy King.
What differentiates BRM Agro from other millers is its large freehold land bank of over 2,000 hectares and the collaborative way BRM works with smallholder farmers from seed to finished product. The resulting collaboration has had a huge social impact on all stakeholders in the area in which we operate.
Our goal is to become the top exporter of quality Cambodian rice and to continue working with local farmers to focus on the cultivation of high-quality rice varieties which are more lucrative and stable in international markets.

Our Growth & Goals
BRM Agro was one of only three Cambodian private sector agriculture firms to benefit from the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative, managed by USAID, and the program will run from February 2023 to January 2025.
The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries recognises the work BRM Agro is doing and is supporting us to become Cambodia’s first rice-seed company.
We are also implementing an expansion strategy that includes production capacity and diversifying the production of new seed varieties in Cambodia.
Our goal is to be the largest exporter of rice from Cambodia by 2028.
Milestone Timeline:
- In December 2015 BRM Agro Co., Ltd. formed
- 2016 BRM Agro builds 13km public road opening up 20,000 hectares of rice land
- 2016 BRM Agro starts supplying Cambodia Ministry of Agriculture Rumduol Seed for distribution
- March 2022 BRM Agro’s new rice mill with industrial dryers begins operation
- June 2022 BRM Agro starts exporting to the EU
- January 2023 BRM Agro’s new flatbed dryers are operationalised increasing daily drying capacity.
- February 2023 BRM awarded a USAID grant under Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) - only one of only 3 awards for Cambodia in 2023.
- August 2023 BRM receives SMETA certification.
